What Are the Forms of Conditioning That Are Used in Essay Samples? The structure of the behavioral response to any stimulus can be described as a process, and the way we use that stimulus to alter the behavior is known as operant conditioning. The theory of operant conditioning suggests that a response to a stimulus will be strengthened when it is repeated in a controlled manner.During the early years of conditioning studies, two methods were used. One involved placing an animal in a room with a stimulus that caused a natural reaction of jumping and walking. The other method was to place an animal in a room with the same natural reaction and make it walk through a maze that presented a maze-like appearance. In the early days of this process, several different conditions were used. This would include removing the stimulus, which resulted in less physical movements in the animal, or giving the animal a limited number of treats prior to the procedure in order to establish an association o f positive reinforcement. The latter method, known as shaping, is still used in operant conditioning and was one of the first techniques used. It is also one of the most widely used since shaping involves conditioning an action on a condition, rather than an object.Through shaping, you reward results by offering the animal with a treat and provide a substitute for the treat when the action is performed. For example, if the animal performs the behavior of walking through the maze, instead of giving it a treat, you might supply a signal that has been shown to produce some positive associations.Shape is used because it is less expensive than the other types of conditioning and it can be done in a controlled environment. Furthermore, you don't have to worry about introducing a new and dangerous condition into the environment, as you can set the bar of acceptable behavior at a level where the activity can be repeated without any trouble. An example of a shaping technique can be found in th e paper when a bird flies from one side of the paper to the other while remaining stationary. The main change that you can make is to make the bird perform the behavior in a different direction.Other types of conditioning are known as operant conditioning. This is where the animals are conditioned to perform the desired behavior after an act has been performed. The animals are then rewarded with treats once the behavior has been repeated.
